Recently, i had a good talk to an old friend and he made a point with saying that understanding someone else’s opinion works better once you know where he’s coming from. As a more precise introduction into the things i’m talking about, here’s a chart of songs that might be called my all-time-favorites.

This chart is created with the help of iTunes and the statistics generated with it in the past 3 years. Like i made an intelligent playlist with “Year IS 1997″ and “Rating IS *****” and got Drexciya by sorting after playcount. It’s impossible to include the bias of personal experimentation i made before using iTunes (i’m glad about the iPod’s synchronisation). In addition to that i’ve not yet been able to import (or even re-listen) all of my music collection into iTunes (it’s a host of tracks already though). Nevertheless it is an excellent comprehension of my listening habits and shows which things i took off certain ‘musical eras’.
Quite electronic, huh ?
As a sidenote: This is also some sort of contribution to the recent stream of conservative thinking in our society. Instead of jumping on their bandwagon and dancing to the popular art they danced to in the past (and i didnt) i’m willing to save some of the stuff that made their pop possible.
not too much time today either. spend the last hours to listen to the track in a loop. i think it’s a great theme, but i want to shape it the right way. i’ve stretched it to close to 4 minutes added some minor background chords and it all feels well as of now. i hope to finish it tomorrow so i can move on to the next.
- did not do any music today.
- fortunately i spend additional time in the last night after posting about the first day. the second track is very promising and will most definately find it’s way into the release. i’m very happy with the basic scheme of it so far, because it’s very close to drexciya. something i’ve been trying to (and never finished) in the last 2 years hopefully it won’t break with another days feeling.
- second track fits one of the two themes i’ve been scratching out yesterday.
- shaped 3 concepts that are pinned at the scratchboard.
- had a good start with one of them
- ended up with something interesting that doesn’t fit any of those themes

If you appreciate the existence of Ogg-Vorbis or FLAC or Theora because of it’s audio quality, the flexibility of it’s tagging system or just the free licensing approach and open source character you’ll probably be glad to hear that there’s exiting news that will (definitely) gain new life to it.
On 21st february Chris Blizzard of Mozilla demonstrated highly discussed changes for the upcoming Firefox 3.1 that include HTML 5 video element. Ogg Vorbis and Theora will therefor be supported built-in.
- no more external components
- no more plugins
Blizzard stated that Mozilla “aims to encourage an explosion of creativity around video that will mirror the kind of uninhibited innovation that has flourished in the Web’s inclusive standards-base ecosystem.”
Mozilla is an active fund contributor to Ogg development.
Theora, used by Wikipedia, may potentially equal the quality of MPEG4
Hopefully you’re exited as me. I’ve been looking forward to this since my experiments with the early stages of Fluendo.
You’ll hopefully know that fgmcvp makes some awesome music. You may check some music out here.
However, one of my favourite songs of Fabian is still somewhat unreleased. It’s a duett with his friend Ricardo and has a ton of plays in my iTunes. Now they made a hilarious video to it which probably goes well along the hypnotic sound of it:
I’m happy to see project168 back online again! To me it is the Titanic of Netaudio that had been sunk by spam. Only few persons know the wealth of the ideas that i got after my exploration of the project, because everything i did (or did not) since 2005 regarding music and internet is a result of my visit to Darren’s website.
